Picking the right bed is one of the most important decisions you’ll make in your home. It needs to be practical, look good and more importantly, ensure you get a brilliant night’s sleep.

When it comes to actually choosing what bed you want, this decision can be difficult. Certain bed types will have certain benefits for different people. You need to decide whether you want something that simply looks good or if you need more than that. Some beds come with storage, others don’t. Some are designed to be contemporary and modern, others more traditional and old fashioned. Your options are endless.

We’ve put together a guide to help you decide what bed is best for you. We’ll show you the different types of beds we have available and why they might suit your needs.

What types of bed are available?

The best place to start is by showing you what beds are actually available for you to choose from and tell you their benefits. Here are the options you can choose from:

Children’s Beds

It’s also likely you’ll need to choose something with somewhere to store or their spare toys and loose items of clothing.

Our range includes some of the following:

Divan Beds

Divan beds come in three different styles, they are the following:

Non-Storage Divans: Non-storage divan beds are the quintessential bed for those who want something aesthetically pleasing. Their lightweight construction is suitable for all mattress types and can be made in more than two pieces if your bedroom is difficult to access.

Ottoman Divans: Ottoman divan beds take everything that’s good from a divan bed and utilise the space underneath as a handy storage area. They’re an alternative to drawers and give you more space to play with depending on the bed size.

Storage Divans: If space is at a premium in your bedroom then look no further than a storage divan bed. They come fitted with useful sliding drawers so you can store any loose items of clothing or spare bits of bedding.

Beds sizes

Before purchasing your bed, it’s worth grabbing a tape measurer and finding out exactly how much space you have to play with. If you can’t find the size you’re looking for then check out our range of custom sizes. Once you’ve found the size you have available, you can check it against our useful size guide below:

Beds price guide

When it comes to buying anything, not only do you need to consider what you’re buying, also the price of the product. The same can be said when it comes to buying beds. Depending on the type of bed and the size, different beds come with a different tag.  Before you consider what bed you want, you need to consider some of the following:

  • The size of the bed -

The bigger the bed, the more expensive it will be. As an example, a king size bed will be more expensive than a single bed, simply because they’re bigger.

  • The style of bed -

Certain styles of bed will cost more than others. For example, beds that come with storage options are more costly than those that have no storage. But if space is limited in your bedroom, it’s likely you’ll need to spend a little bit extra to ensure you get a bed with storage space.

What bed is best for...

When it comes to buying a bed for a specific reason, we regularly get asked questions that start with “what bed is best for”. So, we thought we’d answer some of your most frequently asked, what bed is best for questions.

Best bed for small bedrooms

Choosing a bed for small bedrooms can be difficult because we all want a little bit of extra wiggle room but we have to be realistic. When it comes to size, the maximum size you can really go to is a double bed. Your best option is to choose a ottoman bed because of the extra storage you get underneath for keeping any loose items put away, decluttering your bedroom. Best bed for a bad back

When it comes to choosing the right bed for a bad back, it’s not actually as important as the mattress you choose. The mattress is what makes the big difference because this is what your body makes the most contact with. We wrote more about finding the best mattress for a bad back

Best bed for a heavy person

You need to find a bed that’s heavy duty and long lasting. Metal bed frames are sturdy, heavy duty and provide you with support. Find out what mattress is best for you in our Mattress Buying Guide

Best beds for kids

If you’re on the lookout for a bed for kid’s bedrooms you need something that not only looks good but is also sturdy. Kids love to jump around and have fun, so this is the main reason why you need to find something sturdy. Metal and wooden bed frames are two of the most sturdy options available. It’s likely your kid’s room will be the smallest in the house so you need to get them a size that fits their room, even though they might beg you for a bigger size.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve compiled a list of some of the most frequently asked bed questions that we get, hoping to help you find the answer to those pressing bed questions.

What size bed should I get?

This solely comes down to the amount of space you have to play with. Not everyone has a huge bedroom. If you have a smaller bedroom then you need to look at beds as small as a single, depending on how many of you are sleeping in it. If there’s two of you, you’ll need something a little bigger. Measure out how much space you have, so you can manage your expectations before heading out on your bed search.

What size is a small double bed?

Small double beds are also referred to as a queen size bed. They’re slightly smaller than a double bed but bigger than a single bed and can reasonably comfortably fit a couple. They measure 122cm in width and 190cm in length.

How big is a ¾ bed?

3/4 beds are part of the queen size beds or small double beds family. It’s essentially just a different name for it. With double beds being referred to as a whole bed and single beds being referred to as a ½ bed, ¾ beds naturally land in the middle.

How often should you change your bed?

It’s important that you regularly change your bedding and your bed sheets to ensure they’re kept clean. Most experts recommend you wash your bedding once a week or at least twice a week. This ensures any gross stains are removed.

What’s the difference between UK and EU bed sizes?

UK and EU beds differ in size, with EU beds generally larger than UK beds. For example, an EU double bed measures 140cm in width and 200cm in length, compared to a UK double bed which measures 135cm in width and 190cm in length. So as you can see, EU sizes are slightly wider and longer than UK bed sizes.
