Easy Ways to Make Someone Else’s Day

Bed Guru like to think that if you do good, good will come to you - including a fantastic night's sleep. Here's how...

It’s safe to say that to be comfortable, healthy and happy is something that the vast majority of us attempt to seek out in life.

Our beds and mattresses have the comfortable part covered, and the health benefits of getting plenty of sleep have been known for some time. But what does it take to be happy?

Many would argue it’s to have money. But does that guarantee happiness? Not always. Much of what happiness is about can be found in performing acts of service or charity for others.

We like to think that if you do good, good will come to you!

So we’ve put together a handful of easy ways to make someone else’s day and spread a little love…

Hold the door open.

One of the smallest gestures we can make. Spare five short seconds and wait for the person behind you to catch up and let them through the door. It’s as simple as that.

Buy two coffees instead of one.

Offer it to a homeless person, a stranger, or take them into work and give one to a colleague. It’s nice to be nice!

Listen with all your senses.

It’s so simple to do. Take care in what people are saying. Ask questions about what they’re telling you, and recall the conversation if you speak to that person again.

Finished a book?

Take it with you when you’re out and about, and give it to somebody else to enjoy. Freecycling!

Send Flowers.

It doesn’t even have to be an occasion. Why wait to let somebody close to you know you’re thinking about them?

Forgive and forget.

That thing you just can’t seem to let go of? Consign it to the history books. Never bring it up again.

Leave a tip.

Waiters/waitresses often work long and stressful hours on near minimum wage. Leave a few coins, or even write a compliment/encouraging message before leaving.

Lend a hand.

If you have any elderly friends or neighbours, ask them if they would like a few things picking up from the shop. If they live alone, go round and see if they’d like to have a chat!

Throw away your rubbish.

But also offer to take somebody else’s to the bin too! This could be after a movie, at the park or elsewhere.

Give a note.

There is nothing worse than not being recognised. Sing the praises of an employee to the manager when you’re in a shop/café/bar/restaurant. You could earn them a promotion, or better yet a pay rise!

Be conscious.

Be aware of the people around you. If somebody is stressed, unhappy or simply not behaving like themselves, offer them your time to listen, and remind them that they have a friend in you!

By performing just one thoughtful gesture for a stranger or loved one you could make their day.

We’ll be bringing you lots more informative wellbeing posts on the Goodnight Guru Blog and our Facebook and Twitter over the coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled!
