Whether you want to add a little bit of colour to your bedroom or you want to go all out with bold shades, there are all kinds of ways to liven up your space. How you decide to do it comes down to your personal preferences and personality, so let’s take a look at a few different ways to liven up your space…

Create a colour wall

If you’re a fan of bold, bright colours, then by all means go for it! Reach for the paintbrush and cover all four walls a bright colour.

But if you want to take a subtler approach to adding colour to the bedroom, painting one (or possibly two) walls and keeping the others neutral is the way to go. Taking this approach will give you a splash of colour without overpowering the space.

  • Get cosy with a warm, red wall, and use splashes of white around the room to tone it down.

  • Liven up a dark room with sunny yellow, and give your space a happy, welcoming look and feel.

  • Dare to go tropical with a vibrant fuchsia pink wall, and accessorise your room with dashes of turquoise.

Pick an upholstered bed

We believe that the bed should be the centrepiece of every bedroom, so why not go for the most luxurious option of them all? An upholstered bed will transform any bedroom into a sophisticated retreat, and it’s a simple but effective way to add a dash of colour to a neutral space.

Whether you want to go for something bold and dramatic, or you’d prefer an understated finish, you’ll have all kinds of options to choose from.

Add soft furnishings

If you’re not sure where to start with adding colour to your bedroom, you could keep it nice and minimal by adding a few simple accents around the place. Scatter cushions in solid colours are a great way to do this. Not only do they catch the eye and make an instant impact, they’re also really affordable. Here are a few other ideas

  • Choose the brightest coloured bedsheets and duvet covers you can find

  • Create a block of colour with curtains that complement your bedroom

  • Scatter funky, patterned cushions and pillows on your bed.

 Go for statement furniture

There’s no reason to stick with traditional wood or minimalist white bedroom furniture if you don’t want to. Neutral walls provide the perfect backdrop for statement furniture, so why not go in search of stand-out contemporary pieces (like a chest of drawers, wardrobe of bedside table) or take a DIY approach and spruce up an old piece?

  • Seek out colourful, striking designs that add an extra dimension to your bedroom

  • Upcycle vintage furniture with chalk paint, and give it a new lease of life

  • Remember, you can make a statement with an upholstered bed.

Finish off with plants and pots

Bring the outdoors in by dotting plants and flowers around; it’s a brilliant way to bring some natural colour into your bedroom. If you’ve got white walls, green houseplants will look particularly fantastic, as will budding flowers. They can also help improve the air quality inside your house, and they also aid relaxation. If you want even more colour, you could always seek out vibrant pots and pop your houseplants and flowers inside. The choice is yours.

  • Pretty orchids, African violets and hibiscus can bloom in indoor environments; they only need a bit of sun

  • Leafy spider plants and peace lilies are ideal if you’re going for a minimalist look

  • Keep a bonsai tree near your window; remember, it’ll need regular watering and you’ll need to prune it occasionally.
