A good night’s sleep is essential for your body. Having the right mattress is an easy way of guaranteeing you get the shut-eye that you need. With all the bank holidays coming up, now is a great time to ensure your bed is ready for all those extra lie-ins you’ll be getting!

Here at Bed Guru, we sell three main types of sprung mattresses. We’re going to take you through all three, giving you in-depth details about their benefits and how can they help you.

Pocket Sprung Mattresses

Pocket sprung mattresses offer you a range of different spring counts, from 1000 springs to 10800 and is measured in a UK king size. Each spring works as an individual, wrapped in its own cloth which, allows the mattress to mould to your specific body shape.

The more springs you have, the more your mattress will mould to your shape. Made with a core of 1000, 1500 or 2000 springs. 2000 being the firmest model, and then additional layers of mini-pocket springs are added. These are a cross between the core springs and the upholstery over the core, and give you more shaping and comfort. If you and your partner are forever rolling into each other, then a higher spring count can prevent this from happening.

With the mattress able to mould to your body shape, this can help with pain that's caused during sleep. When your back's aligned during sleep, this will improve your posture. And you should start feeling the difference straight away. Pocket sprung mattresses are well known for tackling problems such as lower spine pains.

Finally, due to their structure, pocket sprung mattresses are allowed to breathe. This keeps your mattress and you cool at night.

Sprung Mattresses

Sprung mattresses are the more traditional option in our range. They are open coil mattresses, joined together using wire. This makes them easier to turn than pocket sprung mattresses. They’re ideal for single beds and perfect for those who sleep alone.

Unlike a memory foam mattress, sprung mattresses don’t rely on the contour of your body to provide the comfort, it just comes naturally.

They are always a safe bet as they have been around for a long time. It is likely you have been using a sprung mattress for the majority of your life, so when it comes to buying a new one, they’re a reliable option.

Sprung mattresses also allow your bed to breathe a little. They provide extra circulation for easy ventilation, keeping you cool whilst you sleep. The springs have a considerable amount of space between them, preventing you from accumulating too much body heat. This is particularly useful as the warmer months roll in.

Non-Sprung Mattresses

There are alternatives to pocket sprung and sprung mattresses, known as non-sprung mattresses. The most popular kind is the memory foam mattress.

Memory foam mattresses are formed from viscoelastic, a man-made foam. It was originally created for aeroplane seats. Eventually, it was adapted so it could be used in hospitals to help patients who required spinal support. It’s firm to the touch, but it contours to the shape of your body. It's well known for improving spinal form and chronic back problems caused during sleep.

One of the great things about memory foam mattresses is that they are heat sensitive. This means your bed will be cooler in warmer climates and is particularly useful with spring and hotter days starting to arrive.

Memory foam mattresses are also hypoallergenic, which means they are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. So if you suffer from allergies in the springtime you may want to consider this as a great option.
