When it comes to buying a bed or mattress, we always recommend buying the biggest size you can afford, but it's equally important that it's going to fit comfortably in your home. Especially when it comes to getting them delivered to your bedroom in the first place.
When choosing the size of your bed and mattress, you need to take certain factors into account. In this blog, we’re going to show you what you need to consider, to ensure you make the right choice for your bedroom.
Size matters
Ultimately, the comfort of your bed is the most important factor. And nothing compares to having space to starfish, but you also have to be mindful of your space. It’s all well and good being able to stretch out across your bed, but the last thing you want is to climb out of bed to find a slither of floor space to move around and be free to use.
Friendly reminder about doorways
Doorways and beds don't often get along. While we can make your new divan bed in multiple pieces, we can't give the same treatment to your mattress.
Before you make your order it’s important to measure the space you have, particularly your door frames. We don't believe a quality mattress can be squashed into a box, so squeezing it through a door frame can be challenging. Make sure you measure the width and length of your door frame and then check it against the width and length of your mattress of choice. If you're unsure, we'll be more than happy to advise you.
We have a number of custom size mattresses to ensure you find the size you’re looking for. If you can’t find it, we can find it for you. If you need a specific length or width, we’ll make yours bespoke.
What custom sizes are available?
All of our mattresses are available in a range of custom sizes. From our handmade pocket sprung mattresses with their independent springs to prevent annoying roll together, to our body-hugging memory foam mattresses that contour to your body shape.

A bed for every space
Standard sizes don’t always fit in the space you have, so a custom size bed frame could be just what you're looking for.
Whether it’s wooden bed frames that are sturdy and long-lasting or divan bases that come with under bed storage, there’s a custom size for you. If you have specific measurements we can make your divan base longer, wider, shorter, or lower with a fully custom sized-bed depending on your requirements.
We do of course have a full range of standard size beds too. If you have space then we’d recommend you take a look at king size beds. They measure 152cm in width and 200cm in length, giving you plenty of space to stretch out. For rooms with a single bed why not upgrade to a small double bed? They give you nearly as much space as a double but are perfect for smaller spaces.
For awkward spaces and unusual rooms, we can make a bed that’s a little shorter than your standard bed or not as wide as a double bed. For example, a UK double bed measures 137cm in width and 190cm in length. If that’s too long for your bedroom, one of our custom sizes is 137cm in width and 175cm in length so you don't have to compromise.
What else do you need to consider when buying a custom mattress or bed?
Once you’ve settled on the perfect size, you need to think about making it the pièce de résistance of your bedroom. We can make your divan base in a range of different colours to ensure it does just that. If you want to test the colours out first, we can provide you with free colour swatches so you can find the right colour for you.
It’s important you know what to look for in a mattress. When it comes to firmness, it’s all down to what feels best for your body. For a firmer feel, our support mattresses offer you additional support. For whereas natural mattresses are designed to be extra breathable so are ideal for summer months to keep you cool.

We deliver our range of customs beds and mattresses worldwide. Deliveries to England, Scotland, and Wales are free and we’ll also take larger items into the room of your choice to make the whole process easier for you. We’ll even remove the packaging on our way out!
For Northern Ireland, non-mainland UK, Channel Islands and everywhere else, we calculate delivery costs based on your order when you checkout. No matter where in the world you are.
