High sleeper beds, or mid-sleeper beds, involve using the empty space beneath the bed. It uses the space for a variety of different uses such as a desk, an extra bed, wardrobes or a play area.

High-sleepers are a great option for children that have lots of toys or clothes! Plus, they usually come in lots of different styles, so you can find the perfect bed for your bedroom.

4 benefits of a high-sleepers

Some high-sleepers come without storage built-in under the sleeping area, allowing you to create your own setup! Whether you want to set up a play area for your kids or create a den, the possibilities are endless!

4. Fun

High-sleeper beds are so great for children because they are so unique! Some high-sleeper beds come with slides, ropes, or extra steps so it feels like you’re going on an adventure when you climb into bed!

What age should you be for a high-sleeper bed?

If you're thinking of getting a high-sleeper for your child,  you should wait until they’re at least the age of 6 years old. This is due to safety regulations and the beds having to be accessed by ladders or steps.

Similar to high-sleepers, mid-sleeper beds are lower and could be appropriate for those aged 4 years old. Before buying a mid-sleeper, always make sure to take the bed's individual safety guidelines.

7 high-sleeper safety tips for parents and children

High-sleepers are strong and stable beds, and if you follow the safety guidelines and the bed is constructed properly, you can be sure your child will remain safe.

However, due to their extra height, high-sleepers do pose a greater risk of an accident if they are not used properly, so it's important to not only read the guidelines yourself but you should read them through with your child.

  1. Make sure your child doesn’t jump on the bed.
  2. Make sure your child doesn’t jump from the bed onto the floor.
  3. Don’t place high-sleepers directly under a light.
  4. Ensure all safety nails are securely fastened.
  5. Regularly check all fittings are not becoming loose.
  6. If your child gets up during the night, make sure to have a night light on for when they are using the stairs.
  7. Make sure your child doesn’t swing or play on the ladders or steps.
