Having an upholstered bed can transform your bedroom into a haven of luxury. Just imagine it… you’ve got your walls, curtains, and lighting just the way you want them and now it’s time to get an upholstered bed frame to match your décor. What could be better than that?
Having an upholstered bed is a really simple way to create a stylish space that you’ll love spending time in. But, just like some other types of bed frame, upholstered beds need to be well looked after in order to keep them looking their best. There’s usually more maintenance involved in keeping an upholstered bed in top condition when compared to beds with wooden and metal frames.
So, once you’ve discovered the upholstered bed of your dreams, it’s up to you to make sure it stays looking great. Here are a few top tips to help you take great care of it.
Give it a vacuum
Every time you vacuum your bedroom, it’s worth giving your headboard and any visible parts of the frame the once over too. It’ll It’s best to do this using a small attachment, which will allow you to get into those tricky nooks and crannies.
It’s all too easy for dust and hair to gather on upholstered bed frames, and dull down that pristine look. Giving it the once over with a vacuum on a regular basis will really help to keep cobwebs and dust away, which makes it healthier, too. If you have a faux leather frame or headboard, then you might find that wiping it clean with a damp (or dry) cloth works best. Getting into the habit of doing this once a week really can make all the difference.
Blot clean only – don’t rub
As you may have guessed, it’s best to avoid spilling things on upholstered beds, but we all know that these things can happen. If you do find yourself in this situation, just as you would do with your sofa. Rather than scrubbing the whole thing, spot cleaning the spill is definitely your best course of action. Whether you’re using water or a stronger solution, always make sure you blot clean rather than rubbing hard, otherwise you risk weakening the fabric or ending up with a patchy finish.
If you have fabric cleaner, then this may be able to help (but always make sure you read the label first). It’s important to try it out on a small spot somewhere out of sight or in a less obvious place (like the bottom of the headboard). Blot clean, leave it for a few hours until dry, and you’ll be able to see whether or not the fabric has discoloured. If it has then don’t use the cleaner. If it all looks okay then you can go ahead and use is on your spills and stains.
Keep it fresh
A fresh, clean bedroom is always best, and the little things can make all the difference. When it comes to keeping your upholstered bed in tip-top condition, we recommend using a spritz of scented linen spray on the headboard every now and again. You’ll be surprised how much it can help.
Here’s another alternative for you: use the backing soda trick. To keep your upholstered bed fresh, simply pour a decent amount of baking sofa onto a dry cloth and pat it into the fabric. Leave it to sit for a few hours, then use your vacuum to clear up any residue. Just bear in mind that your baking soda can make a bit of a mess, so it’s wise to time this with changing your bed sheets.
