10 Eccentric AirBnB Bedrooms

Where's the weirdest place you've slept? Bed Guru have seen it all, from Van Gogh's bedroom, a shoe, and more besides.

30th March, 2016
by Carl Walsh

If you have a spare guest bed, home or hotel room – you could list it on AirBnB and rent it out to holiday-makers. AirBnB has taken the hospitality world by storm, connecting travellers with 2 million empty rooms worldwide.

You’ll need a quality bed, of course, but the rest is up to you. Without further adieu, let’s take a look at some of the weirdest and most wonderful rooms to rent on AirBnB…

Van Gogh’s Bedroom

Van Gogh bedroom

Decorated in post-impressionistic style, Chicago’s coolest Airbnb bedroom makes guests feel as though they’re dozing in a living painting. Seem familiar? Well, it’s based on Van Gogh’s – and it’s even rented by ‘Vincent’. It’s said that he leaves his visitors a handwritten note and tickets to the local art exhibition - ‘Van Gogh’s Bedroom’

The Entirely Recycled Bedroom

 Attic bedroom

One man's trash is another's... building material? Forget bricks and mortar, four condos in Florianopolis Brazil are made entirely of glass bottles, reclaimed wood and ceramic waste. The perfect space for the eco and design conscious alike. Venture within Cabana Floripa, you’ll see it’s decked in vivid pastel colours and quirky stained glass windows.

 The Cubic Bedroom

 Cubic bedroom

Isn’t Rotterdam’s Cube House the most angular building you’ve ever set eyes on? Bright yellow and raised up on brick stilts, we bet the sharp corners and triangular rooms made their furniture hunt hard. They didn’t know that we specialise in non-standard size beds and made-to-measure mattresses… but at least you do. Bed Guru have unique custom made mattresses for spaces just like this.

The Suspended Ski Lift Bedroom

Ski slope

A literal ‘Airbnb’ - until recently, you had the chance to win a stay in this cable car, 9,000 feet above sea level. From a roomy double bed, covered in a faux-fur throw, you’d have enjoyed a uniquely incredible view of the French Alps.

The Giant Seashell Bedroom

Seashell bedroom

Bleached white in the Mexican sun, The Sea Shell House stands on the rocky northern coast of Casa Caracol. Its mind-blowing conch design is certainly a talking point. With a king bed in each master bedroom, sand coloured carpet, shells for taps and paintings of Trident on the walls, they’ve definitely stuck to a theme!

The Water Tower Bedroom

Water tower home

This is city centre living at its most bizarre. Few people can say they’ve slept in the lovingly converted North Kensington Water Tower in London, with incredible views of the canal and towpaths below. Unbelievably, it fits a full size bath and a double bed! But if we could suggest one improvement, it’d be a flexible zip-and-link bed which can go from super king to two single beds with a simple unzip.

The Boot-ique Bedroom

Shoe shaped house

No prizes for guessing which New Zealand bed and breakfast took inspiration from the old woman who lived in a shoe! You’ll find The Boot-Fairytale in a grove of Hazelnut trees in Tasman. Pad up its spiral staircase, past fresh flowers and complimentary chocolates, and you’ll come across the queen-sized bed and a Juliet balcony. How’s that for a memorable stay!

The Medieval Bedroom

Medieval castle

We’re willing to bet that the master bedroom up Galaway Castle’s turret is one of the oldest listed on Airbnb. Ireland’s medieval gem has been fully restored with traditional materials, and boasts rustic four poster bed frames to kip on – which made us reminisce about the 200 year old bed we fitted in a listed castle in Inverness.

The Fairy-tale Shed Bedroom

Shed bedroom

As sheds go, Jack Sparrow House is as gorgeous and quirky as they get. Airbnb guests will find this perfect little bolthole amongst unspoilt fishing villages and secluded coves near Falmouth Bay. Unbelievably, there’s a mezzanine double bed hiding beneath that sweeping, concave roof!

The Grass-roofed, Hobbit Bedroom

 Hobbit hut

Over in Geyserville California, this Hobbit hut stands understated. There’s grass growing on the roof, to make fresh wheat grass for breakfast. With stained glass windows, an earthen floor and a naturally heated bed, not to mention the hot tub and sauna guests have access to – we can’t imagine anywhere cosier to spend the night. Well, except on a Bed Guru mattress, that is.
